Hi, I’m Alina Yklymova, a German-Turkmen writer and director, based in Frankfurt and Stuttgart, Germany.
I’m inspired by work that combines emotional precision with formal risk, humour with darkness, and beauty with disturbance. I’m interested in people who don’t fully belong, in families as places of love and violence, and in the hidden absurdity of everyday life. I’m drawn to stories that can be tender, excessive, funny and unsettling at the same time.
My short films include Muha, Kurschatten (Goosebumps) and Störenfrieda (She Is a Good Boy), which have screened at festivals including Max Ophüls Preis, IN THE PALACE and Shorts Trieste, and received awards such as the Best Film Award at filmreif!, the DACHfilmzeit Innovation Award and a Jury Special Mention at Düsseldorf Filmfest.
Currently, I’m completing my first feature film, Matröshki, which is in post-production.
